    Course Structure

    Week 1: Introduction to PACU Nursing & Postoperative Patient Monitoring

    • Role and responsibilities of a PACU nurse

    • Understanding the effects of anesthesia on different patient populations

    • Immediate postoperative patient assessment: vital signs, consciousness level, pain, and oxygenation

    • PACU admission criteria and standardized recovery protocols

    Week 2: Airway Management, Pain Control & Hemodynamic Stability

    • Airway management techniques: oxygen therapy, suctioning, and intubation support

    • Pain management strategies: pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions

    • Monitoring hemodynamic stability: blood pressure, heart rate, and fluid balance

    • Early recognition and management of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV)

    Week 3: Managing Postoperative Complications & Emergency Response

    • Identifying and responding to complications such as respiratory distress, bleeding, and shock

    • Recognition and treatment of post-anesthesia complications: delayed awakening, hypotension, hypoxia

    • Handling cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, and anaphylaxis in PACU

    • PACU discharge criteria and transition to surgical wards or ICU

    Week 4: Patient Handover, Ethical Considerations & Best Practices

    • Effective communication and documentation in patient handover

    • Legal and ethical considerations in PACU nursing

    • Family education and emotional support for post-surgical patients

    • Implementing best practices and quality improvement strategies in post-anesthesia care
